THE END OF HYPER ISLAND: LEAVE A LEGACY
Background
The last module at Hyper Island is “showcase”. The students form a team of their choice and decide autonomously what idea to execute from start to finish. The focus is on the execution and the Project Management rather than the pure conceptualization.
We decided to solve a problem very close to us: how to keep in touch with the other Hyper schoolmates in a private way after the end of the course and keep alive the Hyper methodology which became so close to our everyday life?
The solution: HI check-in app
Checking in is part of the Hyper Island methodology. Every morning the team gets together in a circle and shares how they are feeling or simply what’s on their mind. It is important to take the temperature of the team and be aware about each other. We took the check in literally, and translated it into digital format throughout a mobile application. The problem? No one in the team was a coder. But Hyper Island is all about learning by doing so that did not stop us. With some offline help and some online tools we managed to have the minimum viable product ready to distribute to the class during the final presentation. The presentation was held without a keynote, but by printing a gigantic infographic of our process and received very positive feedback. We were the only group able to really execute our idea, going beyond a mere concept.
